      The original name is of the West Slavic Lechitic origin of the tribe of Wends (gwends) originally signifying a “queen”, later a “woman”, a “fair lady”, later a “blessed”, a “fair” as we can also see in Brythonic Celtic. The word derives from the Lechitic (Polish) Princess Wanda/Wenda from whom the tribe got its name.
